Glossary Of Terms

A condition in which a three-phase power distribution system becomes tuned to one of the harmonic frequencies. When such tuning occurs, huge amounts of harmonic current circulate within the system. If this condition persists for any length of time, the entire system can be destroyed by fire or explosion. This is a very dangerous situation that is usually found when an attempt is made to add capacitors to a 3-phase distribution system that is already carrying small amounts of harmonic currents.
