Glossary Of Terms

CREST FACTOR

The ratio of the peak value of an electrical waveform to the rms value of the waveform. The crest factor of a sinusoidal wave is the square root of two (1.414.) When a waveform is distorted the crest factor can be either higher or lower than the crest factor of a non-distorted sine wave. (see: rms Value, Distortion, Voltage Distortion, Current Distortion.)
